Therapy For Neurological Disorders & Conditions

Stop choosing between your medical and mental health

You’re tired of being stuck between explaining your medical condition and trying to understand what your doctor is telling you.

Your friends and family mean well but they can’t see your pain and worries.  You feel like you should receive a diploma for all the medical knowledge you've gained.  You’re not sure you fully understand it all, so how could they begin to get the magnitude of what you deal with.  You worry you might be a burden or sense that they doubt you.

Maybe you’ve been to therapy, but this is more than depression, anxiety, or trauma.  You have real life threatening concerns.  Or maybe you’re just wondering how much your medical condition might explain your emotional suffering or changes in behavior.

Perhaps you feel like your doctor doesn’t get your suffering.  Or they’re trying, but they mainly focus on the medications and provide education about your illness.  They can’t relate to the daily experience, the emotional and physical challenges that impact every aspect of your life. They may get it, but they don’t live it, and how can you really open up when appointments are too short and sometimes far between?

As a therapist specializing in neurological conditions, I offer therapeutic approaches specifically designed to address the complex interplay between your nervous system, emotional wellbeing, and overall quality of life.  You’re seeking a place to be understood, to be heard.

Understanding Neurological Disorders and Conditions

Neurological disorders affect the intricate network of your nervous system—including your brain, spinal cord, and the nerves throughout your body. When this delicate system experiences disruption due to injury, trauma, or other factors, the effects can manifest in various symptoms.  These symptoms don't exist in isolation—they interact with each other, creating complex patterns that require a comprehensive approach to treatment. By exploring this interplay, we go beyond managing surface symptoms, and we can create lasting positive change.

Physical Symptoms

  • Unexplained pain patterns

  • Muscle weakness or coordination difficulties

  • Balance issues or movement problems

  • Changes in sensory perception (numbness, tingling)

  • Sleep disturbances and persistent fatigue

  • Speech difficulties or trouble swallowing

Cognitive Symptoms

  • Memory challenges or cognitive processing issues

  • Difficulty with attention and concentration

  • Executive function difficulties

  • Problems with learning new information

  • Confusion or disorientation in familiar environments

Emotional Symptoms

  • Mood changes that seem disconnected from circumstances

  • Anxiety and nervous system hyperarousal

  • Emotional reactivity or difficulty regulating emotions

  • Personality or behavior changes

  • Depression related to neurological challenges

How it works

I worked for over a decade in neurorehabilitation hospitals.

Consequently I integrate knowledge from working with people in the hospital within days of their injury, to following them in an outpatient setting sometimes for years after. I’ve worked with many neurological conditions including strokes, traumatic brain injury, concussions, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries. My practice integrates several key neurologically targeted therapeutic interventions:

  • Working with the brain's natural neuroplasticity

  • Addressing both physical and emotional aspects of recovery

  • Helping process the grief and adjustment to life changes

  • Supporting the development of new cognitive strategies

  • Understanding the specific brain functions affected by the injury

  • Developing compensatory strategies for cognitive challenges

  • Processing trauma associated with the injury event

  • Addressing nervous system dysregulation

  • Building resilience and adaptation skills

  • Building capacity for managing stress and emotional intensity

Specialized Therapeutic Modalities

Traditional talk therapy alone often isn't sufficient for addressing neurological conditions. My practice integrates several specialized modalities that work directly with the nervous system:

Brainspotting - harnesses your brain's natural ability to heal itself, often leading to profound insights and relief that cognitive approaches alone may not achieve.

Somatic Therapies - connect and communicate with your body and learn to create a new relationship where you can work with your body instead of feeling like it’s working against you.

Parts work - create space for parts of you that experience conflicting thoughts and emotions, and connect with compassion and greater awareness to integrate them and feel whole

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) - an auditory intervention designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience. Connect with feelings of safety and support in yourself and with others.

Accelerated Resourcing - identifying and strengthening internal resources towards addressing traumatic material and shifting how your brain responds.

How We’ll Work Together

We’ll start with a complimentary 30-minute video consultation.  Taking the first step can be scary and I want you to feel like you’re with the right person to guide you on this journey.  If we decide to work together, we’ll have an in-depth intake session. This will give me an opportunity to learn more about you and your goals, answer any questions you have, and co-create a plan to track your progress throughout our work together.

You choose the format that works best for you:

  • If you prefer to make progress steadily over time, we can meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for 50-minute sessions.

  • For accelerated results, concentrated therapy in the form of intensives may be a good fit for you. Like a large dose of therapy at once, you can experience rapid relief and healing with a relatively small time investment. 1- and 2-day options available. Click here to learn more.

Why I do this work

My approach isn't about "fixing" what's wrong or returning to exactly who you were before. Instead, I focus on helping you navigate your current reality with greater ease, connecting with your innate abilities while developing new skills and perspectives that support your wellbeing.  The path forward may not be linear, but with compassionate guidance and effective therapeutic tools, significant healing is possible.

Take the Next Step

If you're ready to explore how specialized neurological therapy might support your healing journey, I invite you to contact me for a complimentary 30-minute consultation. This conversation will help us determine if my approach aligns with your needs and goals.

During our consultation, we'll discuss:

  • Your current symptoms and challenges

  • How your neurological condition affects your daily life

  • What you've tried previously and what has (or hasn't) helped

  • Your goals for therapy

  • My approach and how it might benefit your specific situation

  • Any questions you have about the therapeutic process

Early intervention often leads to better outcomes, but it's never too late to benefit from specialized support. Many clients make significant progress even years after the initial onset of their condition.
