I’m Katrina

I am a mother, wife, and dog owner. Growing up I became an adventurer and experimenter. I am curious and learned the value of being an observer, listener and tinkerer. My life long love of knowledge constantly leads me to explore new topics, places and acquire more information, but I believe the true magic happens when I have time to stay with the stillness and reflect, integrate, and apply what I have learned.

I am licensed clinical psychologist focused on expanding your capacity to respond to distress by creating awareness of limitations that have kept you stuck, and empowering you to recognize your potential for growth. I use a combination of Brainspotting, mindfulness, parts work, and somatic work to help you navigate the ups and downs of life and find your path.  I am an avid learner and always open to hearing about what you have tried and what has worked or not worked for you.  I believe in meeting you where you are, honoring your unique experiences and working collaboratively to identify goals that matter to you.

I studied lots of different therapies and found that talk therapies helped me to know what was going on but didn’t always create change in my clients.  While my clients might agree with the theories, their hesitations and reluctance came out as a lot of "yeah, but..."  In their distress, they were seeking relief, not change.

My clients weren't the problem, my approach was.  I realized I needed to address the nervous system dysregulation first.  I needed to teach them to connect their mind and body to work through their distress to find regulation.  Only when they felt calm in their body could the limitations lift and their brain be open to new awareness about themselves and their behaviors.  They could tolerate distress, see their situation differently, repair negative cycles of behavior, improve self-awareness, and feel empowered to live a better life.

I have over 15 years of experience working as a neuro-rehabilitation psychologist in hospitals with individuals suffering from trauma (caused by biological and external causes), resulting in emotional, neurological and major physical trauma.  I’ve worked extensively with concussions, head injuries, dementias and other neurological disorders. I felt limited by the ineffectiveness of talk based therapies to heal many forms of trauma or address the nervous system dysregulation in my patients.  As I integrated Brainspotting, somatic therapies, and resourcing therapies with talk therapies it allowed me to heal on a level that I didn't realize was possible. I saw clients' nervous systems relax, repetitive thoughts let go, improvements in sleep, and less pain complaints.

Happiness is not about  adding more to your life.  It’s about unwinding the beliefs, patterns and behaviors that block your natural atate of joy and presence.

Specialized Therapeutic Modalities

Brainspotting - harnesses your brain's natural ability to heal itself, often leading to profound insights and relief that cognitive approaches alone may not achieve.

Somatic Therapies - connect with and learn to interpret bodily sensations to gently release trapped energy from traumatic experiences, helping to restore balance to your nervous system

Parts work - create space for parts of you that experience conflicting thoughts and emotions, and connect with compassion and greater awareness to integrate them and feel whole .

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) - an auditory intervention designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience. Based on Polyvagal Theory, SSP uses specially-filtered music to stimulate the vagus nerve and help regulate the nervous system.

Accelerated Resourcing - identifying and strengthening internal resources towards addressing traumatic material.
